Germany pressured Czech Republic, Slovenia got eliminated from the World Championships and Slovakia will most likely miss the play offs.
Czech Republic 4-2 Germany
Germany was in a 1-0 and 2-1 lead against host nation Czech Republic who tied the game twice. Then superstar Jaromir Jagr stepped forward and decided the game. First, he assisted Voracek for 3-2 and then he scored 4-2 himself. Germany fails to reach the play offs this year since Switzerland got an important 1 point against Sweden in the last round. Czech Republic have a firm grip of the third spot in group A.
Slovenia 1-3 USA
USA stays at the top of Group B after victory against Slovenia today. Slovenia however, will have to play in the division 1 next year. A sad story since they did a good 2014 Olympic Tournament and got a good reinforcement from superstar Anze Kopitar for this years World Championships. Hopefully they can bounce back shortly. Game winner for USA was Brock Nelson with two goals and one assist. Together with Sweden’s Filip Forsberg he is now the top-scorer of the tournament with 6 goals each.
Slovakia 2-3 (ot) Russia
Tomas Kopecky gave Slovakia a good start when he managed to get i a loose puck in behind Sergei Bobrovski in the Russian goal. In the second period Sergei Mozyakin tied the game 1-1. One minute into the third Vladimir Tarasenko gave Russia the lead. Important points was at stake for Slovakia, chasing a spot in the play offs. They got the equalizer through Marian Gaborik and the game went to overtime. 2:06 into the fourth period Artemi Panarin did a solo run and got the decisive 2-3 goal. Slovakia will have to beat USA and hope that Belarus doesn’t get more than 1 point against Finland and Norway. That won’t happen and sadly, Slovakia, who almost have the home team advantage in the tournament, is out.
Switzerland 2-7 Canada
Team Canada got their sixth straight win in the tournament and have a flawless streak at the top of group A. They will probably get their seventh win in the next game, against Austria. However, Austria won’t give up without a fight, chasing a spot in next years World Championships. If they loose, they might get regelated to division 1.
