Sports betting

Sports betting holds the distinction of being the oldest known form of gambling in the world. The Greeks can take credit for having arranged the first recorded betting events 2000 years ago. The ancient Greeks were great sport fans and came in droves to attend major sport events like the Olympic, Delphic and Corinthian games. The Olympic Games were different athletic competitions held in the honor of the Greek mythological God Zeus. The Greeks arranged it every four years and it later evolved into the Olympic games of our modern times.

The Romans refined the Greek sport betting tradition and transformed it into a business with the famous gladiator games. Today, sports betting is a multi-billion dollar industry, appreciated in the world, but mainly popular in Europe. Internet has in recent times given the sport betting business a dramatic boost and made it more accessible to millions of people. Sport betting is today an integral part of the wider online casino and gambling industry.  The global Sport betting industry keeps growing and is estimated to be worth in the neighborhood of 700 – 1000 billion dollars. It is hard to know the exact size of the industry due to comprehensive regulations and black market activities.

Fraction vs decimal odds

People have been playing games over money and wares for a long time. The Romans and the Greeks did it. It is a feature of the human mind to find patterns and try to predict things. The idea of organized betting was born in 1858. Two people in the US placed a bet, 100 dollars each, on whether a player in the National Football League (NFL) would make a home run or not. From here, the phenomenon spread to Europe and other continents like a wildfire. Today, organized betting on sports are a common feature online, engaging millions of people in the world, and growing.

The Internet revolution the last 20 years have changed the face of how we bet; earlier almost all organized betting was on sports odds and match results, now there are a bunch of alternatives ways to bet; first goal scorer in a game, winner of a league or tournament, number of corners in a football game, politics, entertainment and music competitions and so on. The sky is the limit.

Odds can be a puzzling and frustrating before you learn how they work. Basically, odds tell you how likely a gambling site think it is that an event will happen and how much money you win if you place a bet on that event. Take a minute to learn how odds works by reading the below text.

Odds comes in two kinds: fractions and decimals:

Lets take a look at fractions first:

a) If you place a bet on an event that has the odds 9/1 there is a ten percent chance of it happening (total 9+1 = 10. 1/10 = 0,1 = 10%).
b) If you place a bet on an event that has the odds 4/1 there is a twenty percent chance of it happening (total 4+1 = 5. 1/5 = 0,2 = 20%).

In a) you will get £9 back for every £1 spent. In b) you will get $4 back for every $1 spent. Simple as that.

And decimals:

a) If you place a bet on an event that has the odds of 9,0 you will get £80 winnings from a £10 stake (9 times the money – stake: (10 * 9)-10 )
b) If you place a bet on an event that has the odds of 4,0 you will get $30 winnings on a $10 wager (4 times the money – stake: (10 * 4) – 10 )

Simple as that! When you have familiarized yourself with odds, don’t forget to check out our surebet calculator!

What is a surebet?

A surebet is when you bet on different outcomes on the same game on multiple sportsbetting-sites. On some games the odds are so good you can be guaranteed a profit regardless of the final outcome on the event.

How can the surebet calculator help me?

Try the following example in the surebet calculator below: You find these odds on three different sites for the game between Manchester United and Manchester City:
Home win: 3x
Tie: 2,8x
Away win: 3,5x
You have 300 euro/dollars/pounds. Now, how should you bet these money?

As you can see, the surebet calculator shows you how much profit you are guaranteed when you bet on the different outcomes (in the above example 2,44%). Now, repeat this on all surebets you find and watch your stack of cash grow! It’s better than bank interest for sure!

El Clásico and other interesting football this week

El Clasico

This week offer some exciting football with El Clásico as the main event. Be prepared when Luis Suarez brings some bite to Barcelona’s offensive play when they face Real Madrid, in Madrid Saturday October 25th.

Champions League

Elsewhere, in the Champions League Manchester City travels to Russia to face CSKA Moscow Tuesday 22nd. Wednesday 23rd Liverpool plays Real Madrid home on Anfield. Also on Wednesday Arsenal visit Anderlecht hoping to claim the group D win.

U21 European Champions

The qualifiers for the Euro U21 2015 is finished, these teams will enter the tournament next summer. The top four teams will get places in the Olympics in Brazil 2016:

Sweden
England
Germany
Czech Republic (host)
Portugal
Italy
Serbia
Denmark

Sweden made it to the tournament with a spectacular 4-1 home win against France. They were down with 0-2 from the first game but managed to come back and are now qualified for the U21 Championships. While the competition is fierce, the tournament is rather short, with a group phase followed by semifinals, which means anything can happen. In Sweden we of course hope for a spot in the Olympics where each U21-team can have three players above age. That would be a perfect finish for our superstar forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the national team, especially since he missed the opportunity to take part in this summer’s FIFA World Cup. A spot in the U21 Championships is also important for Sweden because it shows that we have some younger players that can continue to deliver in the national team when they grew older. As a small nation we do not have a large population and therefore need all the players we can get in our national teams. Soccer, together with hockey is two national sports, but we also have many individual athletes in nordic skiing et.c.

Chicken Swedes are looking forward to continuous football action despite the winter is coming!
